The Pros and (Mostly) Cons of Upgrading to a 4K Monitor

I'm in the process of getting back into photography which will mean a new camera, more on that in a later post. But the first step for me was a new computer, one with the horsepower to handle a modern day camera and its RAW files. Along with the computer comes a new 4K monitor. 4K is great for media consumption, right? Your characters on your favorite show or movie really look detailed and realistic. Scenery looks wonderful. Everything looks great, right? Wrong. You know what doesn't look great? That photo I took in 2012 that I thought was sharp but is very much not. I transferred over my past catalogs of photos over to Lightroom Classic and eagerly began opening up some of my favorite photos. Camera Shy (Photocentric)

Ran into this guy while biking. Almost literally ran into him. Banana slugs (which this is), are, besides the mascot of U.C. Santa Cruz, one of the largest "terrestrial slugs" known with the longest ones clocking in at just about a foot long. They're also fairly speedy at 6.5 inches per minute. All facts, by the way, taken from Wikipedia, and not know off the top of my head. Except for the U.C. Santa Cruz bit of info.

In elementary school we went to science camp in the Marin Headlands (north of San Francisco) and one of things we were given the opportunity of doing was to kiss a banana slug. I think I passed on that opportunity. Ah, Science Camp... so many memories. Most of them are even good ones! :)

As you can see, he/she (they're hermaphrodites) got camera shy just as I was taking the shot. But I suppose that's to be expected when he was originally going to be run over!
