The Pros and (Mostly) Cons of Upgrading to a 4K Monitor

I'm in the process of getting back into photography which will mean a new camera, more on that in a later post. But the first step for me was a new computer, one with the horsepower to handle a modern day camera and its RAW files. Along with the computer comes a new 4K monitor. 4K is great for media consumption, right? Your characters on your favorite show or movie really look detailed and realistic. Scenery looks wonderful. Everything looks great, right? Wrong. You know what doesn't look great? That photo I took in 2012 that I thought was sharp but is very much not. I recently got to see the Wings of Freedom group again at Moffett Field. I'm not sure why, but I didn't get many shots that I liked. I'm not sure if it was the setup of the planes, the harsh mid-day sun, or just a lack of creative spark but either way I came away with a lot of shots, and only two or three that I liked. Photo details: As I mentioned it is an HDR composed of seven brackets then processed in Photomatix Pro. From there I put it through the Topaz Labs suite of plug-ins. I know I've mentioned it a couple times (at least) earlier, but Clarity is my new favorite tool. I literally can't wait to get to that step in my process. To finish the shot off I used Star Effects to add some flair.
